Annual Daily Bible Reading Plan (Basic)

Annual Daily Bible Reading Plan.    A fuller plan with prayer examples is after this.

DAILY BIBLE READINGS FOR THE WHOLE OF THE YEAR  - FOR USE IN YOUR PRAYER GROUP, OR OWN PRAYER TIME

(Systematic Old and New Testament readings with Psalms or proverbs every day. Do this and in one year, you will have read through the whole Bible.)

These daily readings are taken from the ‘Through the Bible in One Year’ Bible.  Read all or part of your day’s readings in your prayer time or during the day.

It is a good discipline and also very rewarding as you continue. The Bible comes to life and God rewards you (Proverbs 21v5).

EXAMPLE:  January 1st: We looked at an example reading from this month to demonstrate how we use scripture, this gives an idea of how we prayed. Remember to use bible verses and claim bible promises to make your case in prayer.

OT reading: Genesis 1v1-2v17: v1 ’In the beginning....’  Each of us began in God, He is our Creator. Once we know our Father in heaven, the searching for roots here on earth is quietened. We prayed for many to find their real roots in Christ this year (Colossians 2v7). v2 The Spirit brooding / hovering over the waters. May Holy Spirit bring a quickening to the Church in Cyprus, and work out God’s purposes in the nations. (Psalm 33v10).

v3 ‘Let there be light’. We prayed for God’s revelation to break out amongst the Jews, amongst the Middle Eastern and European refugees, amongst the believers here in Cyprus (Luke 2v32; Ephesians 1v17).   v3-26: ‘And God said’  We thought about the creative  power of the spoken word...to build up or to destroy (Luke 6v45). v28 ‘ Rule’. We have been given dominion as stewards of the earth, and to overcome the enemy – including in prayer. (Romans 12v21; Luke 10v19). 2v3 God rested. The value of rhythm and rest in the cycle of life. Overworking pastors prayed for. 2v6-7 Streams watered the surface. How we need the Spirit to fill us day by day. The breath of life....led to personal prayer. 2v9 knowledge of good and evil. We have power of choice. v17 a warning.

NT reading: Matthew 1v1-25. v2: ‘Abraham was the father of...’ led us to pray for fathers in the land. Honouring their families, their responsibilities. Also for spiritual fathers in the Church to influence and nurture younger believers. v17: God’s precision and order in creation and in life. Glory to God!

V18: ‘with child through the Holy Spirit.’ It is the Spirit that brings life. Prayer for our churches and individual believers to seek for more of God, more of His Spirit of life, more of Jesus (Romans 8v2, 6 & 11).  v20 ‘do not be afraid’. v21 Jesus – saving us from sin - led to thanksgiving. v22 Prophecy fulfilled...be aware of this in our day e.g. Israel re-established, Middle East conflict, nations in disarray, etc.  v23 God with us Amen! v24-25 Obedience.

Psalm or Proverb: Psalm 1v1-6. The value of delighting in the word. Reading the bible regularly day by day. Hungering for it, knowing it, allowing the Spirit to guide through the word planted in us day by day. We prayed for believers to hunger for the scriptures and the discipline of reading the bible every day, and of studying the word. Blessing v lack of blessing....our choice.

EXAMPLE:  1st February. As we looked at an example reading in this month to demonstrate how we use scripture, this is how we prayed. Remember to use Bible verses and claim Bible promises to make your case in prayer.

OT reading: Job 22v1-24v25: Job 22v3 Yes, God gains pleasure from us walking rightly before Him. We can bring Him pleasure through living lives which seek to honour Him and His ways, His teachings. Amen! v12-13 God knows all things! v21-30 a great passage of promises to claim IF we choose to live that way. (Pray that you desire to walk in His ways.)  Job 23v10: God knows our situations and tests us, refining us. ‘Gold’ is the result in our characters....becoming more like Him. v12 treasuring His words, His teachings. (Pray that you come forth as gold, in the Refiner’s fire.)   Job 24v2-4: How people badly treat other people! v13 the ‘rebels’ against God. v22-24: the final outcome for the wicked is that they have no assurance of salvation. (Pray for someone you know who is a rebel against God, for His mercy on them, and for conviction leading to salvation.)

NT reading: Matthew 21v18-32: v19 the power of a command when the one who commands believes his command will happen! Cf. v22 ask whatever is right, believe, receive it!  v23-25 Jesus’ authority and His wisdom! (Pray for greater faith in His word, His leading, and in the fact that He exercises authority through you....He lives in a believer, prays and speaks through a believer.) v28-32 the value and power of obedience.

Psalm or Proverb: Proverbs 3v21-35: v21-26 As you know and live God’s word, you receive sound judgment and discernment. The fruit of this is confidence in God and before God, and no fear or anxiety. Amen!  v27-28 Do good as have the opportunity rather than plotting against or accusing others. (Pray that you become more like this in your own attitudes).

EXAMPLE: 5th April:  As we looked at an example reading in this month to demonstrate how we use scripture, this is how we prayed. Remember to use Bible verses and claim Bible promises to make your case in prayer.

OT reading: Deuteronomy 2v24-4v14: ‘Now’ (v24-25) take land of enemy activity in Cyprus...e.g. Islam, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, etc. ‘Battle’...as in Larnaca Mosque prayer centre (arising against us because God is on the move in Larnaca!) v26: offering peace...e.g. situation between North Cyprus & South. Ultimately, spiritual peace of the Kingdom is the only lasting peace….pray for Gospel to spread. 3v2: ‘Do not be afraid.’ God has delivered them into our hands already. We just need to take the land (led of Spirit). We gave thanks for Oasis’ ministry taking the land of literal premises. We prayed into the Larnaca Mosque situation, the religions in Cyprus, and the Peace process between N & S. Was ‘Og’ a giant – cf a fear, a threat? No - David overcame a giant. v16: ‘Borders’ i.e. stick within the Lord's remit. Don’t go beyond His boundaries for your ministry and life. v18: ‘Fighting men’ Intercessors, prophetic, pioneers preparing the way in prayer. We prayed for such people who would have the courage to pioneer in Cyprus, not just in prayer, but people in the nation prepared to break through in different field for the sake of the nation’s prosperity. v22: God fighting for us. v28: commissioning younger leaders in the church...and in the nation. Passing on the baton, but not too quickly. Same in homes and families. We prayed for role models to help younger people to arise to their destiny in Cyprus, etc. 4v6-9: The value of godly laws and wisdom. We prayed for the passing on of godly laws and standards, and Christian teaching to the next generations, including the 10 Commandments (v13). Amen!

NT reading: Luke 10v25-11v4: Jesus answers with a question...a good strategy to teach & develop others. Love God & neighbour. Answer affirmed by Jesus. We prayed for greater affirmation of people in Cyprus by others, in family, church, locality, nation. v29: desire for justification....let it go! Man attacked c.f. refugees situations. Pass by or get involved? Financial cost as well. We prayed that we ourselves and the nation and church would not pass by refugees and others in need. We gave thanks for many in Cyprus helping the needy. v37: Kindness...do the same. v39: listening v distractions, overwork, worry. Make the right choice. Priorities. 11v2: Lord’s prayer a model. Forgive! We prayed into forgiveness and priorities & listening to Him.

Psalm or Proverb: Psalm 41v7-13: Beware the whispers from the enemy into my mind. Spouse or friend lets you down?  Forgive! ….and quickly.

EXAMPLE: May 3rd:  As we looked at an example reading in this month to demonstrate how we use scripture, these are brief notes on how we prayed. Remember to use Bible verses and claim Bible promises to make your case in prayer.

OT reading: Joshua 23v1-24v33: Chapter 23v1-5: Joshua passing on the baton. Prayer for those currently in this situation. Remembering past blessings. Always a good way to start praying...faith building.  ‘Inheritance’ (ours in Christ...Ephesians 1). v6-8 Obedience to God brings blessing. Prayer for the Church in Cyprus to obey the Lord’s leading and His scriptures. v9-13 Beware the snares of the enemy. Prayer for greater discernment of enemy action...for government & church. v14-16 Use God’s promises in scripture to argue the case in prayer. He will always fulfil them. 24v1-7: The value of crying out to the Lord in prayer. v8-13 God’s hornet drives out our (spiritual) enemies. Prayer for intercessors to believe this!  Possessing the land by prayer. v14-27. Choosing to serve God. God is our witness! v28-33 Fulfilment of what had said. Prayer that we would fulfil what we say, keep our promises.

NT reading: John 3v22-36: v22-26: Baptism. Prayer for cleansing of our nation, for spiritual gates to be manned in prayer…to allow the good into the land and to prevent the bad, whether for body, soul or spirit. For revival and restoration in church and nation. v27-30: Prayer that the gifts of people in this nation should be used for the good of all. Each fitted to the most appropriate positions. For Christians, Jesus must become greater in our lives and ourselves less. v31-36: Tuning in by the Spirit and the scriptures to the Lord and His direction and leading for our lives. Take time to pray for those in authority to be led of Him even if they do not know it.

Psalm or Proverb: Psalm 55v12-23: Dealing with enemy words or opposition from others. (See Luke 6v27!) Dealing with rejection and deception from a friend. Staying close to God despite it all. He will judge them...we must not. Beware deceptive words in our own lives. Keep humility and purity of heart by His grace (prayer for this). Trust Him.....maintain a close and intimate friendship with our Lord Jesus.

EXAMPLE: 1st June:  As we looked at an example reading in this month to demonstrate how we use scripture, this is how we prayed. Remember to use Bible verses and claim Bible promises to make your case in prayer.

OT reading:  2 Samuel 1v1-2v7. 1v1: ’After the death of Saul’ reminded us to pray for the passing on of the baton, in families for values to be communicated, praying for new younger pastors, up and coming national and local leaders, MP’s, etc. 1v12: The place of national mourning, e.g. Israel’s Holocaust memorial which we remembered in Cyprus, or the loss of life or misplacement for Cypriot families in 1974 (we prayed).

1v13: The phrase, ‘son of an alien’ directed our thoughts to refugees and ex-pats in prayer. 1v16: led us to pray for justice in the land. 1v27: ‘How the mighty have fallen’ led us to pray into the legacy of the 2013 financial crisis which is still affecting the nation, such as bad debts and unemployment, and for those involved (and all of us) to learn from the causes. Recognition of human nature led to prayer for revival in the Church and renewal in the nation. 2v1: ‘In the course of time’...how God leads and guides, heals over time, etc. Also that David enquired of the Lord, a vital practice for those in leadership in God’s true church.  Prayer for church leaders and ordinary believers in Cyprus to make a regular practice of ‘enquiring of the Lord’ for their own lives and ministries, and issues in Cyprus. 2v6: Showing kindness and faithfulness. May we all do this. ‘Anointed’...prayer for believers to walk in His anointing, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and making a real difference in the land, day by day.

NT reading: John 20v10-31. John 20v12: We gave thanks for the ministry of angels to believers (Hebrews 1v14). John 20v14: Being unaware of Jesus’ presence with us. Recognition! 20v19: ‘Fear of the Jews’. What and who brings fear into our lives at present? Prayer to face the ‘giants’. v23: the power and command of forgiveness. v27: ‘Stop doubting and believe’ prayer for the Church to grow in faith and experience of God, and for the Cypriot and other people in Cyprus to believe for good to come to Cyprus, and work and live accordingly.v31: The Gospel in a nutshell !

Psalm or Proverb: Proverbs 13v20-14v4. 13v20: Walking with the wise rubs off!  v22: Sinners’ wealth stored up for the righteous...prayed that Christians would believe God will fulfil this word so finances would flow to believers for Kingdom use! v24 prayed for the right use and place of discipline in home, school and workplace etc. 14v1: prayed for mothers to be wise in building their family in the ways of God, and in moral integrity.

27th: OT: 1 Chron2v18-4v8; NT: Romans 10v5-11v10; Prov 18v7-16.    31st: OT: 1 Chron 9v1b-10v14; NT: Rom 14v1-18; Prov 18v17-19v2.

EXAMPLE: 1st July: As we looked at an example reading in this month to demonstrate how we use scripture, this is how we prayed. Remember to use Bible verses and claim Bible promises to make your case in prayer.

OT reading: 2 Kings 3v1 - 4v37: v3 avoid clinging to sin; v5 rebellion (see 1 Samuel 15v23); v7b Unity is powerful (cf Babel Genesis 11, or Psalm 133)…prayers for believers; v8 the importance of strategy and getting it from the Lord, not men! (cf David…the Balsam trees); v11 the role of the prophetic in the life of the Church… v15 the role of prophetic music….prayer for these.  4v1 God is very concerned for the widow and orphan, the poor and needy….prayer over this;  v2 use what you have! v3 Put your faith in God…v6 get filled with the (oil of) the Holy Spirit….prayer for these; v10 the basic needs for a 3 day retreat. Why not have a retreat? v13 sometimes intercessors need to take action and speak on behalf of God to those in authority...prayer about this; v19 rebuking headaches, etc.; v26-28 the importance of sharing with or listening to the right person; v30 persevering; v34 identification.

NT reading: Acts 21v1-26:   v2 sometimes we have to do it, not God! v3 ‘Cyprus’ (cf v16b ‘a man from Cyprus’) …our hearts warmed that this island appears in the Bible a good number of times! Prayer for Cyprus followed; v5 wives and children….whole families brought up in God and serving Him, praying to Him. Amen! v20-26 the issue of keeping the ‘law’ for Jewish and for Gentile believers...nowadays. This is worth studying and exploring if you have time….we are free from the law but free to be like ‘slaves of Christ’ (Ephesians 6v6).  Prayer for believers to invest in study time, projects, and themes.

Psalm or Proverb: Psalm 78v56-72: v58 Why does God get ‘jealous’? Because we rightfully belong to Him, not to idols, the flesh, the devil. This is how a spouse feels if their partner is wayward….it is a righteous jealousy. v62 God sometimes gives us over to our own foolish desires in His disciplining of us (cf Romans 1, or the prodigal parable). v68-71 God loves to bless us…Hallelujah! v72 our response is to walk with Him and serve Him well.

EXAMPLE: 1st August: As we looked at an example reading in this month to demonstrate how we use scripture, this is how we prayed. Remember to use Bible verses and claim Bible promises to make your case in prayer.

OT reading: 1 Chronicles 11v1-12v22: v2 the importance of shepherd hearts in leadership, both in church and nation. Pray for such in Cyprus, and for anointed leadership (v3). v9 King David powerful because God was with him…true for you if you walk with Him. v10 giving strong support to leadership…not criticising and pulling down. Also extending influence according to the Lord’s promises and leading. Pray for the Church to learn to do this more. V19…exploits of mighty men. Pray for believers to be filled with God’s Spirit (Acts 2v4; Acts 8v14-17; Acts 19v1-6) and be led to do great exploits by God.

Ch 11 & ch 12: Warriors. Pray for those called by God to take their place in the battlefield as warriors in prayer. Calling the intercessors! (We are all called to pray so ‘more strength is needed’ (Ecclesiastes 10v10). May our axe (the sword of the word) be sharp and cutting in prayer (Hebrews 4v12.) c.f. 1 Chronicles 12v22 ‘the army of God’.

NT reading:  Romans 14v19-15v13: 14v19 mutual edification. C.f. Love neighbour as self. Interest in others development as well as own. v20 ‘All food is clean’ cf Matthew 15v18 it’s the heart which makes us unclean not the food. We prayed for revelation on this in the Church. However, consideration towards others of weaker faith in the matter needed (see Romans 14v1-2). 15v4….the encouragement of the Scriptures leads to hope. Prayed for many more believers in Cyprus to use the scriptures daily, and to read real chunks of the word not just a verse or two daily…maybe using a bible reading scheme. Prayer that we would get to know the word and its promises. v5 a spirit of unity….one heart and one mouth…amen! v7 acceptance of one another in love, though in love prepared to share truth. v8 the promises of God again…to Israel, to the Church, to YOU and me. Let’s believe them and apply them in prayer for ourselves and others, for Israel, for Cyprus and its church.

v9 glorifying God for His mercy’….a lovely way to end our prayer time.

Psalm or Proverb: Psalm 89v46-52: v46 ‘How long’…being real with God over issues which are seeming to drag on with no answer. End of v48 ‘Selah’, which often appears in the Psalms, means basically, ‘consider’, ‘ponder’, ‘meditate’, ‘reflect’, i.e. take time to reflect and pray into what God is showing you. Try it.

David feels the lack of God’s presence in a time of difficulty or opposition. We prayed that believers would indeed believe God’s promise that He is with us, not based on feelings but on the word of God, His promise. We prayed also that those who needed to ‘feel’ God’s presence would do so, by His mercy. v51 Jesus, God’s Anointed One, was also mocked, remember. Despite the difficulties, David prises God in the situation. So should we…it works, and He is worthy.

OT reading: Isaiah 14v1-16v14: Isaiah 14v1: Syria came to mind. God’s compassion on the Syrian refugees. Prayer for peace & their resettlement.

For fulfilment of the ‘Isaiah 19 highway’ between Syria, Israel & Egypt, including Cyprus, a highway of blessing in God’s purposes. Relationships to strengthen between Cyprus & Israel, and false relationships to wither. Isaiah 14v1b-2a: Cyprus to be prepared by God to be an instrument in His hands to serve Israel in the ‘Aliyah’, the return of Jews worldwide to Israel from exile & dispersion. Is 14v5: God dealing with rulers and leaders and oppressors in Cyprus. (cf Amos 6v1 & v6-7). Prayer for righteous and just rulers, leaders, government and those in authority locally & nationally. Is 14v9-23: Leaders humbled. (also Satan brought low...amen!) Claimed v22:

"I will rise up against them," declares the Lord Almighty. Is 14v26-27: similar to Psalm 33v10. God IS God! Isaiah 16v3-4 ‘do not betray the refugees’. May Cyprus provide for the refugee and asylum seeker. Is 16v34b-5 Prayed for just and righteous leaders for Cyprus. 16v6-8 the population wailing’ for Cyprus...aware of bad leadership in past. 16v9 Weeping. v12 Orthodox churches (Greek & RC) shrines - prayer to no avail. Prayer for change/God’s intervention in these networks.

EXAMPLE: 3rd October:  As we looked at an example reading in this month to demonstrate how we use scripture, this is how we prayed. Remember to use Bible verses and claim Bible promises to make your case in prayer.

OT reading: Jeremiah 6v1-7v29. 6v1-8: A reminder of God’s view of Israel and Jerusalem…the ‘daughter of Zion’….’so beautiful and delicate’. The danger of attack on Israel…a very current reality. On the other side of the coin, the way God deals with Israel and Jerusalem in His wise judgment and discipline. Think about your nation and your city. How is God dealing with them? Pray accordingly. Also the blessing or curse promised to those dealing with Israel (Genesis 12v3). How is your nation relating to Israel? Is this producing blessing or curse? Pray as led. v9-15: Who takes time to listen to what the Lord is saying into their situations, or those of their church, community, nation? May we be listeners to as well as doers of the word of God.

The practice of deceit….even deceiving ourselves. We prayed that the lies and deceptions of the enemy and his agents active in the Church in Cyprus, and in the nation, to be revealed, recognised and brought low in the spirit realms. We also prayed for truth and honesty to prevail, especially in God’s Church. v16-17. We prayed into the valuable role of watchmen…intercessors & prophets….and also the returning (repentance) to the right ways of God. v18-30. God’s refining and discipline through things going wrong, even war or invasion. We prayed about God’s discipline (chastisement) within His Church, and in our own lives. Praise God for His chastisement! It is always for our good. May hard hearts be softened to respond to Him. 7v1-11. We cannot continue in sin without His knowledge. He sees everything. He requires repentance before restoration can come. He wants true relationship with us, not false religion. We prayed for recognition of this, repentance, change and transformation in the Orthodox and Catholic, and the Evangelical Churches when it is just religion. v12-29. A real warning to those who refuse to repent…..disaster!

NT reading: Philippians 4v2-23.  v2-3. The power of forgiveness and reconciliation, the power of agreement in prayer. v4-7. The power of praise, and of prayer. v8-9 What we think about is what we become and what we do…make it positive, and in line with His word of truth. v10-20. Learning to be content in any situation. Learning to give generously, and to receive God’s blessing as a result of such sowing. v21-23. The value of friendships, going through stuff together, His grace!

Psalm or Proverb: Proverbs 24v5-14.  The value of receiving and heeding good advice. Valuing others’ experience and knowledge. The result is hope for the future.

EXAMPLE: 2nd November.  As we looked at an example reading in this month to demonstrate how we use scripture, this is how we prayed. It was quite prophetic!  Remember to use Bible verses and claim Bible promises to make your case in prayer.

OT reading: Joel 2v18-3v21: The CONTEXT is that the nation had been devastated. The prophet Joel had called the leaders of the people of God to declare a holy fast (1v14) for the people, and to cry out to God. The alarm was to be sounded (2v1) for the ‘Day of the Lord’ was coming (2v11). God was calling for the people to rend their hearts in repentance before God for the state of the nation - reflected by the state of the people of God (2v13).

Joel 2v18: ‘Then’ ...as a result of fasting, humbling, crying out to God and repentance....2v19: prosperity would return to the nation. This principle is true for all nations. 2v20 The northern enemy would be driven out 2v25: and the nation restored after being stripped. (Hints of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus being resolved in our day?)  NB. Currently we are encouraging reconciliation between believers from the Turkish Cypriot North and the Greek Cypriot South. Across-church groups like the Evangelical Alliance, or ‘Together for Cyprus’ or  Cyprus 19’ are aware of this…based on 2 Chronicles 7v14…’If My people…..then I will heal their land’ Pray that those God is calling to this take responsibility for the state of the nation and seek Him, and fulfil 2 Chronicles 7v14 together.

2v28-32: The Spirit would be poured out, wonders experienced, salvation and deliverance. 3v2 ff: Israel is God’s ‘inheritance’. There will be an end times reckoning on the nations who have opposed Israel, seeking to divide up the land. 3v16: God would be a stronghold for Israel. 3v14: A decision has to be made over Israel, God’s chosen nation, His ‘firstborn’ (Exodus 4v22), the ‘apple of His eye’ (Deuteronomy 32v9-10)...are you for or against? (We are currently sharing biblical teaching about the Jewish people, in churches in Cyprus. Pray for more openings.

NT reading: Hebrews 4v1-13: v2-3: the ‘rest’ of faith. Coming to a place of peace and assurance that God will sort it. 4v7: Do not harden your heart against what God is revealing. 4v11: Choice to enter His rest or not, through obedience or disobedience. 4v12-13: We must ALL give an account for our lives to Him.

Psalm or Proverb: Psalm 119v145-152: Obey His unchanging word, both written, and prophetic.....contemporary to our situations. The ‘night watches’ of meditation on His promises are so refreshing!

EXAMPLE: 28th December: As we looked at an example reading in this month to demonstrate how we use scripture, this is how we prayed. Remember to use Bible verses and claim Bible promises to make your case in prayer.

OT reading: Nehemiah 9v1-37:  (Context) Nehemiah, inspired of God, returned to Jerusalem with the blessing of the new King, and with a number of prominent exiles in Babylon able to travel with him, to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. These had been burned and broken down during the Babylonian invasion and following exile. Despite opposition, the walls were rebuilt. We prayed for the nation of Cyprus to be rebuilt – in many ways and for the reviving and effective outreach of the Church within it, bringing transformation to the nation.

NB. In ch 8 & ch 9v1-4: Ezra read the law to the assembled exiles and confession and repentance from sin followed. We prayed that the word of God would be pre-eminent amongst believers in Cyprus, and that it would be read and studied diligently. Ch 9v5-6: We prayed for a return to true Spirit-led worship and praise amongst believers. 9v7-15: We prayed that Christians would experience and give testimony of God-encounters in our lives. 9v16-18: Forgive our pride and arrogance, O God! v19-21. We prayed for the leading of the Spirit in God’s church in Cyprus. v22-25: We prayed for mobilisation of the people of God, to take possession of the land, both spiritually and physically, extending boundaries of influence. v26-31: We prayed for the role of prophetic types amid the church and nation, to catalyse and mobilise change. v32-37: Recognising the distress of the nation, we prayed for God’s mercy to bring renewal and fresh hope in God to Cyprus.

NT reading: Revelation 19v11-21: We gave glory to Jesus. We prayed that the Church would be faithful and true to God and His Word in Cyprus, and that the Word would be used in prayer as a sword by believers. We prayed for justice in the land for refugees and all unjustly treated. Finally, we recognised that the battle is the Lord’s and He is the victor!

Psalm or Proverb: Psalm 148v7-14: We took time to praise and thank King Jesus!                                                                                                                             IFC
